Chumpcar Update

What’s the latest with the Freeman Chumpcar?

Alright here goes, with our old rear drum brakes completely destroyed and not worth repair, we decided that replacing rear brake drums and changing to rear disc brakes would greatly benefit us.  One trip to the local pick and pull, and we were well on our way. Rear discs are beneficial for multiple reasons, better stopping power, better heat dissipation, and far simpler to work on.

Our new apprentice, installed the new/used brakes and bled the brake system for us. This was quite the task, because the trailing arms must be replaced with the disc brakes.  Our lead technician installed the driver side axle,  and attempted to install the passenger side and found that it would not mesh with the new trailing arms.  Realizing there was a potential problem, we decided  to try installing anther axle from a spare set of trailing arms we had.  This posed a bit of a problem as the axle nut would not come off which kept us from removing the spare axle.  After soaking it in lubricant the nut will still not budge.  This unfortunately require a bit of force.  We grabbed an impact  driver to help us remove the nut.  An impact driver is designed to be used for this type of problem.  It works in conjunction with a hammer moving in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction depending on user settings.  When it is struck with a hammer it moves in the preset direction dispersing the force of impact from the hammer in the intended direction on or off.  After a few swings, Colby did not have any luck, so Nick who’s always up for a challenge asked if he could give it a try.  Nick is a skilled technician,  in this instance though, he misjudged his timing with the hammer and struck his hand. Which brought our day to a halt.  Since this incident we have not been able to get the axle in and will be removing the trailing arm and pressing the new axle in.

Our highly skilled team of mechanics are at it again. They know how to have fun with cars and are hard at work creating a pristine “cheap” car to enter in the ChumpCar World Series. What is the ChumpCar World Series you say? ChumpCar
is a throw back to the roots of racing, when race cars were built on a budget in a person’s garage or backyard with one purpose, to push a car to its limits seeking the glory of hoisting a trophy above ones head in victory lane.

The ChumpCar World series is just the place for those who still desire to go racing and have a limited budget. Entry rules state every car cannot be valued above $500. The race is an endurance race and the winner is determined by farthest distance traveled when time expires.

The car Freeman Motors will be entering is a 1984 Euro BMW 316i, 5 speed, E30 model. Under the hood the power plant is a carbureted M10 4 cylinder engine, this same block is what the first M3 and m12 formula one engines were based.

Suv of the day!

I love traveling around the West each week looking at thousands of cars.  Discovering vehicles that are created for one particular individual with way too much money is always a kick!  Check this 2007 Range Rover HSE convertible out.  Let me know if you would like to put a deposit on this open air off road rig!  EricImage

AMG Driving School 2012 Palm Beach Florida

$221,000 super car! It felt like they should be less, there were so many of them!

Today was one of those days that every man or women dreams of.  Arriving at the Palm Beach International Race Way, you can smell the adrenaline in the bus.  We have been told about this day for a long time.   This is where power, rubber, luxury and man was all supposed to come together in one union.  And so we did!  Please enjoy some of the early pictures I have taken with my iPhone.  You to can have this experience for a small price.  When I say small price, I mean far less than what it cost Mercedes for a day of entertainment for you.  Tires that wear out every other day, gas, track time, experienced personal at every turn, incredible food, insurance, and more fun then one should legally have in one day.  Blessed is the man or woman who will experience AMG Mercedes Benz driving academy.   Eric Freeman

Mercedes vrs. Lexus

It has been an inspiring day working with corporate Mercedes Benz personnel who are so passionate about delivering service and quality both to their dealers and the public.  I have included a picture here of the “B” post of a Lexus and a Mercedes.  This chunk is taken from the post between your front and back door connecting the floor to the roof.  Notice the difference in steal.  I know what I would choose to have my wife and kids in!  Mercedes claims that the jaws of life had a hard time cutting through this “B”pillar.

Stay tuned for more fun facts and AMG driving school tomorrow.  Mercedes has told us to push the limits of what we thought possible in their cars.  EricImage

Flexibility is Key!

After church Sunday, I took my family off road at Brown’s Camp.  It was going to be an awesome event together while having some fun in my new Rover.  Unfortunately, after our first trip up the side of a gravel mound which sent my wife’s heart pounding, we heard a sharp metal clunk.  I knew we were in trouble.  We let the kids play outside until I could figure out what went south.  After trying low and high gears I came to the conclusion something horrible had gone wrong in the rear end.  Image
We limped out of the forest to the main road.  There was no cell phone signal.  Thankfully, it was snowing.  We found a snow plow sitting in the gravel lot.  The gentleman was nice enough to call for a tow.  While we waited for the tow we played cards and ate cookies.  While this was not our plan we still had a great time and now the Rover is under the knife in surgery.

Freeman Motor Company’s 22nd Anniversary

March 2012 marks 22 years for Freeman Motor Company Inc. providing quality cars and service to European automobile enthusiast.  We want to say thank you first to all of you who have believed in us over the years.  If your new to FMC you may know us for the way we look and do business today.  While honesty and integrity, good service and incredible European cars that look like new are what you experience now, in the days of old we had older well used cars that were a good deal but not necessarily the most beautiful. Many of you around the globe have bought over and over making Freeman your home.  We acknowledge you.

I would like to also say, I am the one of the most blessed guys on earth.  I have a wife and kids that constantly spur me on and work hard to be my cheerleaders.  With out their support I could not have honestly sustained some of the growing pains through the years.  They are always at my side with encouragement.  When I come home my kids will often ask how many cars we sold.  I tell them thinking I wish we had sold more.  They without fail let me know that that number was better then none.  I love them!

I want to also give credit to the men and women that walk along side me everyday.  Training, selling, titling, book keeping, making plane tickets, buying, managing, marketing, cleaning, arranging, transporting, filing, goal setting, serving, fixing, giving, financing, budgeting and the list goes on.  A man will die with out the company of others.  These co workers invest in Freeman Motors because they love the business and you as the client family.  This company would not exist to serve in the way it does without their hearts.

Over 22 years, I can truly say that I have been blessed by God in all.  The business has not always been easy and when it is not, I was being taught to live to a higher standard.  It is often said that in the valleys we reach out and learn the most.  I have needed those times to grow and be all the man God has created me to be.  I still have a ways to go but I am thankful for the blessings and the hardships along the way.   May there be 22 years in our future of great relationships and amazing cars.  Eric Freeman
